About Local Livelihoods

Our mission is to advocate for sustainable local livelihoods and foster place-based skill-building in the Southern Gulf Islands.

We undertake this mission by hosting and contributing to public conversations about the regulatory impediments to livelihood and shelter, advocating for regulatory change, and offering empowering place-based skill-building workshops.

Believing that sustainable economic resilience arises when the creativity of a skilled community is supported by regulations, we engage with the Islands Trust and the CRD (Capital Regional District) to advocate for laws and policies which support sustainable local ways of living and making a living.

For residents who find themselves struggling with local authorities for their livelihood or housing, we offer support and consultation.

Skill-building workshops in sustainable building, timber framing, welding, and hide tanning are being planned on Salt Spring Island.
